Great insights -- I love that virtual borders are more real! :)

We live in a world where, 300 years after The Enlightenment, 90% of all humans still, apparently, believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster -- so it's not surprising that the idea that "reality" is a mental projection, an anthropomorphic act on the part of the perceiver, is a little hard for some to grasp.

I've done some things in the physical world that the virtual world can't, currently, come close to. I've also spent A LOT of physical world time in boring, shitty, stupid situations that aren't half as good as wandering around a Second Life sim.

As long as I already brought religion up, here goes: NOTHING in SL is worse than spending Thanksgiving with my Born-Again Christian cousins. Lag is bad (and painfully "real") my family is worse.

I don't pretend to know the complexity of the code that runs SL but I think the hullabaloo is that Linden Lab servers (and server code) connected with Non-LL servers (and non-LL code) and transfered an identity. Since there's no standards for this type of thing I count it as a note worthy feat.

My assumption, perhaps naive, is that bundling up a collection of assets is the 'easy' part once the agent is passed to the new server. I suppose we'll all have to wait and see.

I am all for interactivity between SL and Open Sim. That would be great.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's what we're seeing here. What's being discussed is a non-inventory, non-body, non-clothing "transfer of an avatar".

What? You mean LL managed to exchange a Ruth with Open Sim. That's kindergarten-level programming. So what is the big hullabaloo all about.

Let me transfer every ounce of my hard-earned inventory... then we'll talk. Until then, this strikes me as ballyhoo over zip.
