Session: Empower Thyself

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

4:00p
A little session about empowering myself is about to start. They’re going to talk about Networked Activism and Video Games as Training. This could be “Rationalizing Our Time Spent Online” but that’s premature judgement and I’ll blog as I go…

4:17p
So far so good…entertaining presentation. Very anti-apathy. www.empowerthyself.com

4:24
Organized geek activism. Tho, they don’t like the word activism….makes sense…it’s been tarnished.

4:33
Social Network for Social Action…good things, good things indeed. Go check it out.

This is why there’s traffic

The German’s nicely illustrate the argument for bikes and public transpo.  Los Angeles should put this pic up on billboards all over the city.

Maybe we’ll stop expanding freeways and stop bitching about traffic…it’s kinda up to us, no?

Second Chance Trees

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

I’m in Second Life at Second Chance Trees (slurl) and they will plant a tree in the rain forest (yes, the real rain forest) if you buy a tree here in SL. That sounds like a good deal. I’ll follow up this post with a little research into secondchancetrees.org

Second Life Trees

[Follow up] So it seems that the Second Chance Trees project is in cahoots with Converseon and Plant-It 2020. Converseon is a social marketing site (jumping on the 2.0 it seems) and Plant-It was founded by John Denver and seems to be the operation behind the ‘$1 plants a tree’ effort. I say, that rocks. The tree in SL cost me L$300 which is a little more than 1 American dollar which I’m sure Second Chance uses to help pay for their island in-world. That’s fine and understandable. The cool thing is if you’re in SL, go buy a tree…if yer in RL go buy a tree. It still gets planted!

Ani Speaks, I stop to listen

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

I’m sitting at work listening to a long list of Ms. DiFranco’s fine work and the track Self Evident pops up. I haven’t heard it in a while (like a few months) and while it refers to events of 2001 it’s still wildly relevant and something to be listened to. Here’s the 30 second sample from Last.fm:

I definitely recommend pulling down the track if not the whole album from the music store of your choice. Damn she’s good.

Nice job Yahoo!

Yahoo! Autos Green Center

This globally conscious section to their popular Autos pages is excellent! They cover multiple alternative fuels and review the most popular models that are readily available. Hopefully they promote this site extensively as to educate the people. It’s nice to see some big companies doing good things (like Google going Solar).
