A word on peanut butter

Davenetics* : The Best Peanut Butter in the World

I, truly, am not at this guy’s level when it comes to my peanut butter.  I love it, true, but there is something going on here that is, if not unholy, certainly an un of some sort.  That doesn’t keep me from taking my hat off to this man who has found his passion.

Artworks Upload

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

In the event you don’t know (I’ve posted this in many places) I recently uploaded my paintings to DeviantART.  You can go there and see them and purchase prints if you’d like.  I haven’t ordered any prints so I’m not sure how they come out.  I assume they’re of excellent quality as DeviantART is quite popular.

Check out my DeviantART Gallery.

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

I opened the doors a little late because my printer no worky and I have to run off to Office Depot or Max or some such and get it printed.  Doors open, people trickling in.  It’s always slow before like 2.

Niches, Where Social Networks Work

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Right?

Here’s a little secret…I like wine.  I like wine a lot.  I’m fascinated by the process of creating a brilliant wine and horrified when I drink a bad one.  It turns out there’s quite a few enthusiasts in the world.  I just added two badges to the sidebar there.  One for Cork’d and one for Snooth.  Both are different approaches at creating a network of enthusiastic wine drinkers.

I feel like this is where social networking really works.  There’s still the barrier of easily adding information.  The onus is on me to write down what I think of a wine when I’m oot and aboot and then come back to the computer and type it all in.  I should be able to snap a pic of the label with my phone and upload it to these sites but they don’t seem to be hip to the mobile thing yet.  Unless I’m missing it, but I don’ t think I am.

So join me in this tiny corner of the internet where we’ll sit around and drink the fermented grape juice and document for no other reason than because we can.

Art and Selling Art

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

This weekend I’ll be participating in my second art walk. The general public will wander into the loft and checkout my works. Great. Ok, a little background…The Brewery, where I live, holds an art walk twice a year. All the info you want here: Brewery Art Walk The spring 07 art walk was the first time i had stuff up for people to see. It was an interesting experience and I found myself fascinated in people’s behavior. I guess they get to scrutinize art and I get to scrutinize them, everybody wins! I think.

My dilemma is this. There was interest in one piece of mine last year. I had just finished and I couldn’t sell it. I just couldn’t, shut up. This year I plan on pricing everything and I’ll probably make a friend or two act as the middleman in any transaction that might take place. I’ll look away. I really don’t, however, want to put prices next to the paintings. I know it happens everywhere, I know it’s what’s expected and I know nobody cares but it makes it feel, oh, I dunno, like a yard sale I guess. (if we had fluorescent lights in the loft it would feel like walmart)

Am I being weird? My solution is to print out a list and put the prices on that. I think that’s good enough. I’m really just thinking out loud…or whatever…here. Let’s hope there’s some interest in at least one. I’ll blog about the whole thing after. Hell. maybe I’ll blog during. It’ll give me something to do and I can report on the odd behavior of strangers.

1%

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

You should know that it’s that time in the Los Angeles summer when the air is so dry and hot that you expect everything around you to burst into flame.  The city is parched.  So much so that the humidity dropped to 1%.  That’s insane.  Even for our little city tucked between an ocean and a desert.LA from the Mountains

Travel Tales

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Two events happened in an airport a couple of weeks ago that I figured I should jot down. Both in Boston as I was waiting for my return flight.

I was in one of those half news-stand half crap-stand type stores looking for some reading material and I heard a patron ask for the USA Today. The clerk informed said patron that they were all out of USA Today. The patron was a bit dejected and said “Well, I’ll just take this then.” He flopped ‘this’ onto the counter. It was the Wall Street Journal. Poor guy had to read a decent paper that day.

I shook that off and took my reading materials to the gate. I plugged in my Zen as it needed charging and then went to the counter to see if I could score an emergency exit seat. I asked the attendant behind the counter and he said “Nope, all full.” I thanked him and took three steps away when I heard “Hmmm, you’re tall…how many people in your party?” I turned, told him it was just me. “Let me see. We have a few middle seats.” I asked myself what full meant to this man. I ask myself what full means to the airline industry in general on almost every flight I take. I’ve heard multiple variations on full. Very full, really full, completely full. None of these modifiers makes any damn sense. You’re full or your not. There’s no room for more or less full. The seats are limited and you use them all or not. I digress. I was more annoyed that he couldn’t be bothered to take the time and look up the seats until some sort of weird sympathy for my height fell upon him and he felt guilty enough to punch some buttons for me. Gee, thanks guy. I declined the middle seats. I’d rather have my window seat where I can lean on the wall and not get smacked by passer-bys or the drink cart.
