Spring Art Walk Begins

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

We’re an hour and a half in and the crowd has been pretty steady for a Saturday morning.  The last couple of art walks it seems people always trickle in until about 2.  Then the larger groups start filling in.

Slight interruption there.  One guy was very complimentary.  That makes it worth while.  I’m already into the sauce.  Khalua in the coffee.  Need something to get thru the random strangers judging me in their minds.

More later.

And done.

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

Fall art walk has come to an end.  The doors are still open tho just to catch any last minute folks who trickle in.  I sold another piece today and that feels pretty good.  Now to keep painting in prep for the spring.

A little distracted

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

Things got a little busy towards the end of the day yesterday what with all the people and friends milling about.  Here’s a pic of the one wall.
Clearly I took this pic in between crowds.  Oh, the flash went off too so it kinda makes it look funky.  Anyway, I did sell one painting and the doors are open right now to kick off today.  More soon.

Rush

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

Just had the 4:00 rush.  It was an almost constant stream of people.  Of course, my friends were here too so I spent most of the time talking to them.  Oh, I’ve started with the social lubricants as well.  It’ll help.

My picture taken?

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

Ok, so this hasn’t happened before. Twice in the last 20 minutes I’ve been asked by people who like the art if they can have a picture with me in front of the art. It feels odd.  The picture takers have been young so far.  No old folk want my pic tho.

Oh and…

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

I printed up a price list.  A bold maneuver.  We’ll see what happens.  Ha.

Very Interesting…

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

Yep, those two words are the easy out for the general public who doesn’t like or doesn’t want to like what you do.  Too funny.

Art Walk Begins

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

I opened the doors a little late because my printer no worky and I have to run off to Office Depot or Max or some such and get it printed.  Doors open, people trickling in.  It’s always slow before like 2.

Art and Selling Art

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

This weekend I’ll be participating in my second art walk. The general public will wander into the loft and checkout my works. Great. Ok, a little background…The Brewery, where I live, holds an art walk twice a year. All the info you want here: Brewery Art Walk The spring 07 art walk was the first time i had stuff up for people to see. It was an interesting experience and I found myself fascinated in people’s behavior. I guess they get to scrutinize art and I get to scrutinize them, everybody wins! I think.

My dilemma is this. There was interest in one piece of mine last year. I had just finished and I couldn’t sell it. I just couldn’t, shut up. This year I plan on pricing everything and I’ll probably make a friend or two act as the middleman in any transaction that might take place. I’ll look away. I really don’t, however, want to put prices next to the paintings. I know it happens everywhere, I know it’s what’s expected and I know nobody cares but it makes it feel, oh, I dunno, like a yard sale I guess. (if we had fluorescent lights in the loft it would feel like walmart)

Am I being weird? My solution is to print out a list and put the prices on that. I think that’s good enough. I’m really just thinking out loud…or whatever…here. Let’s hope there’s some interest in at least one. I’ll blog about the whole thing after. Hell. maybe I’ll blog during. It’ll give me something to do and I can report on the odd behavior of strangers.

A quick thanks to a stranger

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

I meant to do this last week when the whole thing actually occurred. Of course, the chance that the individual(s) of note will read this are extrodinarily slim but I’ll do it anyway.

To the Brewery resident who put glow sticks out during the power outage:

A sincere thank you. It was an awesome thing to do. Thanks for hangin glow sticks up and down the pitch black hallways and thanks for leaving a pile of uncracked glow sticks in the loading dock in the event we needed more. The power outage didn’t last too long but I appreciated your effort. So thanks.

That’s it…that’s all. Go back to your normal work avoidance plan.
