Session: Empower Thyself

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

4:00p
A little session about empowering myself is about to start. They’re going to talk about Networked Activism and Video Games as Training. This could be “Rationalizing Our Time Spent Online” but that’s premature judgement and I’ll blog as I go…

4:17p
So far so good…entertaining presentation. Very anti-apathy. www.empowerthyself.com

4:24
Organized geek activism. Tho, they don’t like the word activism….makes sense…it’s been tarnished.

4:33
Social Network for Social Action…good things, good things indeed. Go check it out.

Niches, Where Social Networks Work

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Right?

Here’s a little secret…I like wine.  I like wine a lot.  I’m fascinated by the process of creating a brilliant wine and horrified when I drink a bad one.  It turns out there’s quite a few enthusiasts in the world.  I just added two badges to the sidebar there.  One for Cork’d and one for Snooth.  Both are different approaches at creating a network of enthusiastic wine drinkers.

I feel like this is where social networking really works.  There’s still the barrier of easily adding information.  The onus is on me to write down what I think of a wine when I’m oot and aboot and then come back to the computer and type it all in.  I should be able to snap a pic of the label with my phone and upload it to these sites but they don’t seem to be hip to the mobile thing yet.  Unless I’m missing it, but I don’ t think I am.

So join me in this tiny corner of the internet where we’ll sit around and drink the fermented grape juice and document for no other reason than because we can.

Big Crunch or Endless Expansion: What is your theory on the fate of the universe?

Clearly it’s expanding with juicy goodness.

Consuspammed

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

Well, sort of.

I added my blog to my profile on Consumating (awesome social site, check it out but only if you’re prepared to be witty and interesting) and it seems that it uses that info to crosspost convsersations that I start. That’s all well and good but it doesn’t make any damn sense to you, dear reader, if you don’t get to see all the banter that follows. I’m gonna leave it go for now, but I may end this crosspost madness for your sake. That is what a nice guy I am.

As I type away I realize the parenthetical thought above may come off as, well, hoity-toity and obnoxious. I don’t care. There’s a lot of people putting a lot of stuff online that is empty and cold. I certainly don’t hold this lil’ ol’ blog here up as some sort of beacon of genius (good god no) but I do put a tiny bit of thought into what I write which, I belive, puts me ahead of a good chunk of willy nilly bloggers/bb trolls. And now, I’m rambling so I must stop.

Consumate

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

Just hear me out.

Yes, it’s a social networking site. I know, I know. Listen, I’m not here to get everyone all hyped up about ever site that comes around. That’s silly. This one though, they done good. The most refreshing part is, they have the simplest profile filler-outter process you’ll ever see. It’s all about tags and you don’t even have to tag yourself all that much. Just check it out. They’ve found a way to keep you interacting without you realizing it. It is good.
Maybe you should check it out instead of judging me!
